Place Loom is founded and led by Cath O’Brien, an experienced strategic planner and urban designer with a deep passion for crafting resilient, inclusive, and meaningful environments.
With nearly 20 years of experience spanning government, private, and not-for-profit projects, Cath has been involved in several city-shaping projects across waterfront precincts, retail and activity centres, cultural districts, transport and employment hubs, housing precincts, and urban renewal initiatives. Her expertise in project visioning, feasibility studies, master planning and placemaking, and policy frameworks guides her approach, which is grounded in thoughtful strategy and purpose. While Place Loom is currently driven by Cath’s leadership, the ambition is to grow into a collective of like-minded professionals who share a commitment to creating places with lasting impact.
Collaboration is at the heart of our practice—we believe the best ideas emerge through dialogue, shared expertise, and cross-disciplinary partnerships. We welcome opportunities to work alongside aligned practices of urban designers and planners, architects, economists, artists, graphic designers and engagement specialists who operate with a similar ethos.
Whether expanding our team or forming meaningful partnerships, Place Loom thrives on collective energy and shared vision. We’d love to explore how we can collaborate to bring bold ideas to life…
